The Cambridge International AS Level General Paper is a subject meant to encourage students to
think and argue critically and in a mature manner. The paper is also a test of
students’ ability to express themselves well in the English Language.
In simple words, General
Paper is a subject targeted at preparing students for skills required to do
well at university level. Indirectly, it also prepares students for working life where English proficiency and good communication skills are essestial.
The syllabus draws on
topics from across the school curriculum, and learners are able to draw upon
knowledge and understanding gained from study of other subjects
The Cambridge ‘A’ Level General Paper is a 2-hour
paper to test the student’s ability to think and write as a mature adult
should. The topics covered are classified into three sections.
Section A covers historical, social, economic,
political and philosophical issues.
Section B covers the sciences, including its history,
philosophy, general principles and applications, as well as geographical and
mathematical issues.
Section C covers literature and language as well as
arts and craft.
Students taking this paper will be required to write
two essays from two different sections of the question paper.Questions will demand discussion and
evaluation.
